Senior Product Manager, Operator Tools
MarginEdge is seeking a Senior Product Manager to join our new Operator Tools team — the group responsible for helping restaurants understand and control their costs, and ultimately manage their restaurants better.
The team organizes around problems that define a restaurant's costs and operating workflows. We worry about things like what restaurants spend to bring goods in the door and the ordering workflow behind it; what it costs for the restaurant to make a dish and the recipe and prep workflows that produce it. We take the data a restaurant already has and turn it into insights and automations that drive savings, while giving operators hours back in their week. We believe that a number sitting in a report has limited value; helping operators turn those numbers into action is our job.
MarginEdge’s Operator Tools are part of a broader SaaS solution built for restaurant operators by restaurant operators.
As a Senior Product Manager, you will own a problem area end-to-end. That means you are accountable for an outcome, not a feature list: you determine what is worth solving, work with the team to define the best solution, get it built and launched, and then evaluate the impact.
You will work closely with external stakeholders — restaurant owners, GMs, head chefs, managers, accountants and bartenders — and translate their pain points to the MarginEdge engineering, design, operations, sales, and marketing teams. The ideal candidate has a “buck stops here” mentality, where you take responsibility for ensuring that all the stakeholders are put in a position to succeed, and you proactively anticipate the concerns of both customers and your team.
MarginEdge: Where hospitality meets technology
As a team built by former (and current!) restaurant operators, our mission is to bring operators the same energy, attention to detail, and passion that they bring to their guests. Our culture is deeply rooted in service, partially because that’s where so many of our team come from (including everyone on our Business Development team), but also because we believe it is just the right way to run a business. We design our software with profound empathy for the complexity of running a restaurant, and the goal of making the magic just a little easier for operators by taking the complex (read: very annoying) back office tasks off their plate, while empowering them with real-time data.
Our founders share a deep history in both owning and operating restaurants and in building successful tech companies. We are venture-backed and serve 12,000+ restaurants across the US and Canada.
We enable restaurants to make magic while knowing we are doing the same for them.
We have the utmost respect for our clients and because of this, we are unable to hire their current employees.
What type of responsibilities will I have?
Own the strategy, roadmap, and measurable outcomes for your problem area. Partner with leadership to define success, make prioritization decisions, and communicate the strategy and trade-offs.
Build a deep understanding of restaurant operators and their workflows through regular customer interaction, qualitative research, and product data, and represent that understanding in product decisions.
Validate problems and solutions before making significant investments. Use lightweight tests, prototypes, and pilots to reduce uncertainty, and be willing to change direction when the evidence warrants it.
Use data throughout the product lifecycle. Be able to investigate usage and workflow patterns yourself, partner with Data on what needs to be collected, and measure whether launches actually drove the intended outcome.
Lead product development in close partnership with Design and Engineering, from exploration and prototyping through delivery, balancing customer value, usability, feasibility, and quality.
Understand the competitive and market landscape well enough to know where we are differentiated, where we are exposed, and where there are unmet operator needs.
Partner with Product Marketing, Sales, and Operations on positioning, enablement, rollout, and post-launch feedback.
Take on ambiguous, early-stage opportunities and bring them to a point where the company can make an informed decision about whether and how to invest.
Be the product expert and accountable owner for your area, providing context and direction when customer issues, product questions, feature requests, and new opportunities arise.
Communicate strategy, decisions, trade-offs, and results clearly to audiences ranging from engineers to executives.
Raise the bar for product practice across the team through mentoring and by improving how we approach discovery, writing, decision-making, and measurement.
What qualifications or skills are required?
3-6 years in product management or a related business or technical role (business analyst, product owner, software engineer).
A willingness to roll up your sleeves and spend time with our customers in restaurants, gaining an extremely deep first-hand understanding of the problem space.
A track record of owning an outcome metric, not just a delivery schedule — including cases where you can describe what you moved, by how much, and how you knew.
Experience driving measurable adoption or behavior change, not just shipping features — getting people to actually use something and do something differently as a result.
Experience leading and launching large projects across multiple months or quarters with a high level of autonomy.
Experience establishing prioritization across competing priorities, optimizing for business outcomes.
Comfort operating in ambiguity, where the problem is known but the right solution is not.
Demonstrated ability to have user empathy and focus on problem-solving from their perspectives.
Strong written communication — you can make a persuasive, evidence-backed case to a room.
Comfort working with data to find problems and evaluate results.
Familiarity with the capabilities of modern LLMs and how to integrate them into innovative products.
Nice to Haves:
Experience taking a product from zero to one, not only iterating on an established one.
Experience with hardware products and mobile applications.
Restaurant experience.
Experience building, designing, or otherwise working with software for restaurant owners and operators.
Compensation: The anticipated salary range for this role is $135,000–$150,000 annually. Where a candidate falls within that range depends on a variety of factors, including experience, skills, qualifications, geographic location, and internal equity. In addition to base salary, this role may be eligible for bonus opportunities and our comprehensive benefits package.

Solving these kinds of problems is really freaking hard to do, which is why we develop cutting-edge technology that answers these questions with data science.
